One Crafty Contest Entry - Voting Starts Today!

May 13, 2012

Do you remember my embroidery hoop name art?

It was just something I started on a whim and it turned out to be a big hit.  I just love when that happens.

I decided to enter this precious project in One Artsy Mama's One Crafty Contest.

The first round of voting begins today, May 13.  This will determine the 20 contest participants.

How awesome would it be if my pretty little Ella Irene made it?

Go check out all the crafty entries and cast your votes!

My Ella appreciates your support!

Giveaway Winner! {And a Sick Hostess *cough**sniff*}

March 3, 2012

My sweet, tiniest Ella has been sick for a week with a runny nose, fever and cough {probably a sore throat too - learn more words Ella!}.  When little one isn't feeling well she sleeps like a... like a newborn baby {meaning - NOT WELL}.  She could not sleep in her crib and often could not get comfortable sleeping on Mom or Dad on the couch.  It was a winless battle for all of us.

Thankfully she is now feeling much better!

However, lack of sleep and 24 hour contact with a sickly small person results in sickly parents and a sleep schedule which leaves much to be desired.

We've been up since 3:30 this morning.  After an hour of back and forth, our attempts at getting her {and ourselves} to sleep ended.  I have been up with my girl since 4:30 watching Sesame Street, eating dry fruit loops and drinking water {pretty sure Daddy is sleepin' now}.

In the infamous words of me...

"So, that's good."

I apparently say this in every situation and did not realize it.  Now that it has been brought to my attention I catch myself saying it pretty frequently.

Anyhoooooo...

I have a winner to announce!

What was up for grabs?  The pattern for this heart melting pattern.

Did you see the one I made {HERE}?

Alright, so I wasn't going to post this until noon, but seeing how I am awake I figured, why the heck not?

Congratulations Meagan!

Thank you all for your kind comments and for entering!  I look forward to more of these in the future!

Since I am under the weather I probably won't get around to my coat closet transformation for a bit {hand sanitizer coated fingers crossed}. So, that's good...

Have a great {healthy} weekend!

$10 Vintage Inspired Baby Shower Gift {and a Giveaway!}

February 26, 2012

In January and February we attended 4 baby showers for family and friends!  Yeesh - baby central around here {well not around HERE, but around here... definitely not around HERE}!  When I found out about all these upcoming bundles of joy I went looking for some cutie pie hat patterns.  I, of course, turned to the handmade headquarters - Etsy.

If you are like me, Etsy is a sink hole of crafty goodness; the more you click the deeper and deeper {and deeper} you get, until you have no idea how to get back.

More often than not, my Etsy adventures conclude with nothing more than a long mental wish list and endless DIY ideas.  Every so often I find something I simply cannot pass up and I found that at Sunset Crochet.

At the end of my baby hat search my cart was happily filled with Sunset Crochet's vintage sock monkey hat and diaper cover pattern, as well as the football hat pattern.

Go ahead and take a moment to swoon.

There are two little boys I am soon to know who will be rockin' that melt your heart, little man, football hat and today we handed off a perfect little vintage inspired sock monkey hat to an upcoming teeny princess {I ran out of time and wasn't able to make the matching diaper cover. Boo.}.

Unfortunately I did not take pictures of the gifts I made for the first 3 showers {of course...}, but lucky you, I did take pictures this time!

It probably took me about 3 hours to crochet this precious little gem {I hope that is accurate.  Time gets away from me when I am crafting...}.

What I used:

2.  Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn in Mushroom, Blush Heather and Natural Heather {$3.59 each from Joann's.  I used about 1/4 of the Mushroom and only a small amount of the Blush and Natural Heathers.  I just guestimated a cost of about $3 for this project}.

3.  Two vintage, brown buttons {I pulled these from a jar full of buttons that used to belong to my husband's grandmother}.

4.  Shabby chic, pale yellow pail {$1.99 - Goodwill}.

5.  Kraft paper, just a bit {$1.99 for the pack from Joann's.  Since all I used was an itty bitty piece of a single sheet I didn't count this towards my total for this project.}.

6.  Purple baker's twine from The Twinery that I found on Pick Your Plum awhile back.  I am sure they did not refer to it as simply "purple" but I don't recall what it was.  I don't think it was their lilac or orchid so it might be an older color.  {$4 STEAL.  I of course only used a smidge for this so I didn't count it towards my total for this project.}

I used my Cameo to cut out "Chloe" for the front of the pail and a small hole punch for the holes to run the twine through.

Before the package headed out the door I wrapped a pack of diapers in pretty tissue paper from my stash and tied it all together with more of that fabulous twine.

{I love it when I impress myself!}

November 23, 2011

Jen over at Tatertots & Jello puts together some awesome giveaways!  Last week she had a whole gaggle {yes, a gaggle} of giveaways and I {drumroll please} won one!

**cue happy happy smile dance**

I was dragging my feet this morning {as usual} and just could not bring myself to exit my cozy bed and enter the real world of children and cleaning for tomorrow's festivities.  I laid there with one eye open, skimming TT&J to see if the winners to her most recent giveaways were posted.  As I scrolled down the list of lucky folks I got more and more anxious, and then ...

VICTORY!

I jumped out of bed so fast that I almost fell into the dresser!

The FABULOUS Kendra of Key Lime Digital Designs will be transforming my blog into the next big thing come January!  I could not be more excited!  I had just been telling my husband last night about how desperately I wanted to win the blog re-design.  I must be doing something right in life because my prayers were answered!

During this season of thanks I just want to give a quick shout out to Jen and Kendra - Thank you so much for doing what you do and bringing a smile to my face {and so many others!}!

**Watch for my last minute Thanksgiving centerpiece later today.**
